Iranian ‘Servant’ grabs 2nd best award at US festival

Iran’s ‘The Servant’ wins 2nd Best Animation Award at the 19th San Francisco Black Film Festival (SFBFF).

Iranian animation ‘The Servant’ has grabbed the second Best Animation Award at the 19th edition of the San Francisco Black Film Festival (SFBFF) in the US.

Directed by Farnoush Abedi, the highly-acclaimed animation ‘The Servant’ is announced as runner up in the best animation category of the US event.

'The Servant' narrates the familiar story of a master and his servant, the story of a writer’s encounter with a gigantic insect, a cockroach.

The cockroach becomes a servant but gradually begins to realize that it deserves better conditions, so it tries to turn the table and change the game in its own favor.

The man, however, attempts to preserve the current situation but soon realizes that the game has no rules.

‘The Servant’ previously won the Best Animation award at the 33rd Tehran International Short Film Festival in Tehran and the Best Short Film title at the 13th edition of Fantaspoa - International Fantastic Film Festival in Brazil.

The Iranian animation has also won an award at the 14th London Independent Film Festival in the UK and the best animation award of the 2017 edition of the Silver Scream Fest in California, the US.

It won Best Short Animation award at Querétaro International Film Festival in Mexico recently.

The 19th SFBFF presented the first prize of animation category to ‘Abina and the Important Men’ by Soumyaa Behrens from the US.

SFBFF was founded to celebrate African American cinema and provide a platform for Black filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors to present their art.

It was later expanded to include a global perspective, accepting films worldwide.

The 19th SFBFF was held on June 15-18, 2017, in California, the US.
